Beaches
Whilst still boasting some excellent surf, Bude's beaches are now amongst the cleanest in the country, thanks to South West Water's 'Clean Sweep' programme.
Most of the beaches in the immediate Bude area have a good road running parallel to the coast.
Summerleaze
This is a fine beach, and it is possible at low tide to walk from Sandymouth Bay to Summerleaze, Northcott Mouth or Crooklets. However, should you attempt this, please check the tide times and make sure you will not be stranded by the incoming tide. A unique feature found at Summerleaze is the open-air seawater swimming pool, which is cleaned out twice daily by the high tide.
Sandymouth
Except at very high tide this is a magnificent stretch of firm golden sand with many rock pools, reached by diving down the hill on leaving the park. This winding country lane runs for approximately three-quarters of a mile where you will find a car park and a cafe, both of which are run by the National Trust. At low tide the sands extend all the way from Sandymouth to Bude and beyond a 3 mile stretch of sand.
Widemouth Bay
South of Bude lies Widemouth Bay, another huge beach which never gets too crowded due to it's size. Lying adjacent to the coast road, Widemouth Bay is easily accessible by car. Black Rock stands proud of the rest of the rocks on the beach, which creates a large amount of interesting rock pools.
Crackington Haven
Some 7 miles further on from Widemouth Bay is Crackington Haven, a Golden Star Fish Award winning beach, providing some sheltered bathing under the towering four hundred foot cliffs. A delightful spot surrounded by stretches of down-land covered with gorse.
Duckpool
A delightful little cove at the end of Coombe valley, there is a nature trail here laid out by the Cornish Naturalist Trust with a picnic spot in Stowe woods.
Northcott Mouth
A mile or so closer to Bude than Sandymouth itself, again this is a magnificent stretch of firm golden sand, interspersed with many rock pools.
Crooklets
If surfing is for you then you will be spoilt for choice with rideable waves. The beach is part of a larger bay and is surrounded by gently shelving cliffs. It is popular, not only with the riding of a perfect wave, but also with families looking for a good day out. Crooklets beach has recently earned the prestigious Blue Flag award.
