In and Around Bude

Bude is a charming and friendly holiday destination offering a number of sparkling sandy beaches, interesting local shops, superb restaurants and traditional treats be it a tasty Cornish pasty or a classic cream tea. This area of outstanding natural beauty is home to some of the best surfing spots in the country. Why not contact one of the many local surf schools to try this exhilarating sport or enjoy the number of adrenalin packed activities accommodated by the diverse landscape. The beaches of Bude are home to clean golden sands, clear rock pools  and rugged cliffs. The coastline here is widely recognised by geologists due to its complex rock formations.

Bude also is home to a unique open air sea pool recently saved from falling into disrepair by the local community’s fundraising efforts. The RNLI team at Bude also generate strong support locally and the traditional life boat week event provides interesting and fun entertainment for all.

Should you wish to explore the area further, Bude canal is the perfect location for a leisurely stroll and is home to a nature reserve, family of Otters and one of only a few sea locks in the country. Used by visitors and residents alike, boat hire, watersports , fishing & cycling can also be enjoyed on and around the canal.

Visitors to Bude can readily access the South West Coast Path at a number of locations around the town, offering walks with grades to suit all abilities. Which ever direction you decide to take along the coast path you will see why our region truly deserves to be regarded as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Beyond Bude

Devon & Cornwall offer a number of attractions perfect for all the family, come rain or shine. The Big Sheep and The Milky Way are perfect to keep the younger ones amused for hours on end, with both providing indoor & outdoor fun, whatever the weather.

A little further afield is the world famous Eden Project. Explore the largest indoor rainforest in the world, exotic plants & cutting edge architecture.

Just down the coast lie quaint towns and villages such as Boscastle where you can see the heart-warming rebuilding of the devastation caused by the 2004 floods. Tintagel is just a short drive from here and is a magical place, steeped in legend, and said to be the birthplace of King Arthur.

Famous for its part in the television series “Doc Martin” is the unspoilt fishing village of Port Isaac, also known as the fictional Port Wenn. Enjoy a stroll around the harbour and see if you can spot the many locations featured in the series.

Head North into Devon where you will be struck by the dramatic landscape of Hartland Point which stands at one of the boldest headlines of the English coast. In contrast, just inland is the peace & tranquillity of Hartland Abbey; recently home to the stag party of Prince William & hosting location of The Antiques Road Show. 

A short distance along from here is the picturesque fishing village of Clovelly, famous for its donkeys and cobbled streets that tumble down past whitewashed cottages to the tiny working port.
